Ghar Ki Murgi...

2017. Participatory choreographic game for auditorium/blackbox/outdoor space. Durational.

Ghar Ki Murgi... (the house chicken) is an experiment in live interactive choreography, where audience members get to choreograph the performance. The piece explores the relationship between dance actions and the everyday actions of domestic chores, probing if there can be a poetics of the domestic space, of the mundane. Spectators participate by selecting options from 5 ‘menus’ – each covering areas of movement vocabulary, grouping, spatial arrangement, lighting, and music – to determine the choreographic outcome (executed on-the-spot by performers and technicians). The show playfully investigates ideas of control, human relationships in the digital age, ‘glitches’, voyeurism, as well as the audience's relationship with boredom, expectations, composition and curiosity.

Created for the FACETS international choreography residency at the Attakkalari India Dance Biennale 2017, the work sought to invite spectators to intimately experience the transformative tools & artifices of choreography, making them complicit in the art-making process.
